Unlimited potential conference & update.

Hi guys! Sorry it's been so long since an update but i misplaced my camera and had a hell of a time finding it

The Unlimited Potential Conference was absolutley fantastic. It was great to meet so many people sharing similar challenges and finding out the different ways they are being overcome. A great big thanks to all the presenters and everyone who made it such a great 2 days.
I found it both extremley informative and alot of fun, let's hope it's not the last!

Now to a bit of an update on where we are at with the UP centre.

I am currently teaching two groups of seniors the computer fundmentals, it's really alot of fun, and can be extremely satisfying.
To see the joy they get when doing something as simple as creating a folder or word document really puts it all in perspective.

I have some multi-cultural classes coming up in the next few months which should be a great challenge, thanks to some of the people I met at the conference I know there will be alot of great help out there from centres already doing similer things.

Anyway that's it for now. Thanks!

Hi all! I'm Hanieh Turner, another member of the awesome generalist youth workers team here at the Nowra Youth Centre. I've been with the Youth Centre now for about two years. The first year of work was voluntary on a wednesday night and I got to know a lot of the young people who visit the centre on a regular basis and made a lot friends along the way. Now I work here from Tuesday to Friday and I run a lot of really cool activities.

I help facilitate art on a Wednesday from 3pm to 6pm where we do really fun activities like aboriginal art, painting, sculpting, jewellery making and much much more! Its great fun and gives eveyone participating a chance to have chats and laughs. I run a cooking class one Thursday a month and I usually like to keep it healthy but really yummy! Also, I facilitate a gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender support groups that meets once a fortnight which is just a place for like minded youth to meet, play games, socialize, and eat lots and lots of lollies! Always a favority of mine......

A little about myself now? Well, I'm 28 years old. I was born in Iran but I was raised in Canada and now I have Australia my home so for those you have met me you've already suffered through my very annoying accent! Ha! I'm really friendly and love meeting new people so if you're ever in the centre make sure you say hi! See you soon!

Hello

Hi there everyone,
My name is Emilie McMenamin and I am a generalist youth worker here at the Nowra Youth Centre. I have never had much to do with the internet or computers despite my 'young' age of 23. Therefore, this is my first ever blog entry, and, boy am I having the time of my life :)
Mick my co-worker asked me to do a blog entry, however, I am unsure what to write.......so I might just pretend as if I were talking and blab for a while.
I have a cat called Jubei, he is very cute and black. I have a boat which I recently bought and it is pink. I do not have a licence yet, but gee, that pink boat looks great in my back yard :)
Working here at the youth centre is the best job in the world. Great co-workers, fun work (pool, ping pong etc), I am involved in the music program, which is great because I am a musician myself. Last week Mick and I took the kids to timezone and played laser hunt......I came 3rd out of 16 kids (some were pretty small though), but I was quite pleased with my effort.
So there you go, that is my rant. That was pretty easy once I got in to it. Perhaps I will do another blog some other time? Only if Mick buys me a present for doing it :)
Ta Ta and Thanx for reading my Blab (Blog)

Big thanks to Matt from the Collingwood Up centre for pointing me in the right direction.
